Supported Living (SL) Program
This is an all-encompassing program where VLP Supported Living Coaches serve our clients in their apartments and communities. We show our clients how to live independently by teaching them what it takes to handle the upkeep of an apartment, including cooking; cleaning; getting along with roommates; how to use public transportation; and other everyday challenges. VLP also:
• Finds housing and/or a roommate for clients.
• Develops ties with neighbors, community groups and houses of worship.
• Helps clients face real-life challenges and make responsible choices.
VLP SL Coaches follow up with clients on a regular basis, usually a minimum of five times per month. Referrals are accepted from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities/Medicaid Waiver program and from private sources.
Comprehensive Vocational Evaluation Program
This program determines a person’s strengths, weaknesses, vocational expectations and choices. VLP has the evaluation assessments, tools, techniques and Master-degreed staff to serve individuals with all types of disabilities. Testing can be completed in our office, however, we are mobile and are willing to travel to schools and/or facilities. Referrals are made through the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Division of Blind Services, Insurance companies and private sources.
Supported Employment (SE) Services
VLP prepares its clients to work in the community at the optimum level of their ability. Our SE staff provides assistance, training and access to employment. Our clients learn how to look for a job, how to fill out job applications, and how to interview. Once they are successfully placed in a position, clients are job-shadowed for two weeks by our job coach, who then meets with the client on a regular basis thereafter. The job coach will also meet with the employer to intervene with any potential problems that might occur. Major grocery chains, fast food restaurants and local small businesses employ VLP clients. Referrals are accepted from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities/Medicaid Waiver program, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and from private sources.
Social/Recreational Program
Recreation and leisure activities are important for everyone, and help make a full life complete. VLP staff and its volunteer auxiliary, Angels for Victory **, provide a regular (weekly) social schedule including:
• Group activities, trips to local attractions.
• Participation in team and individual sports training and competition, through Special Olympics.
• Access to community resources such as houses of worship, libraries, stores, etc.
• Victory Living-sponsored social events.
Adult Day Training/Community Inclusion Program
A unique training experience for adults with developmental disabilities. The program provides an opportunity for individuals to develop and utilize their own special talents and skills to better their own lives and the lives of others within their community. The range of services offer will include: cooking, gardening, sewing, craft, computer, music, dance and housekeeping classes. The skills the individuals learn and /or enhance will be used to assist them in contributing back to their communities through a variety of volunteer opportunities.
** Angels for Victory
Established in 2003, this Auxiliary supports our clients by raising funds for client social outings. The Angels organize and attend regular group outings with our clients. The group sponsors an annual fundraiser each year, called Fire & Ice. This event supports the Angel/client sponsored activities and our entire social program. |
